furbelow
1: a pleated or gathered piece of material especially: a flounce on women's clothing
2: something that suggests a furbelow especially in being showy or superfluous
Kenzie Housego’s Neo-baroque multidisciplinary practice combinations assemblage, new media, and sculpture. By re-constructing societal narratives that harken to a romanticized past, symbolic and iconic notions of beauty Housego seeks to highlight binary gender roles, ideas of hyper-femininity, and gender performance. Her visual research is synthesized through composed coded images and suggestive materials such as red hearts, vintage advertisements, pearls, electronics, LEDs, sequins, and lace. Mediums and material are an integral part of Housego’s process in communicating her broader observations concerning the relationships between gender performance and technology.
